Chairman’s Message
A message from JACAP leadership.
Dear Members of the Jamaica Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers Limited (JACAP), It is with great pleasure that I present to you the Board Chairman’s Report for the year 2024. This past year has been a significant one for our organization, marked by achievements and growth that have propelled us forward as a leading collective management organization in Jamaica and the Caribbean region.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the hardworking Board of Directors, the dedicated Management and Staff of our secretariat, and all our members for their unwavering support and dedication throughout the year. Together, we have stayed focused on our goals and worked towards realizing our Vision Statement, which encourages us to become the leader in the business of collective management organizations.
Key Highlights of 2024:
1. Distribution Increase: I am pleased to announce that there was a remarkable 34% increase in distribution to our members, totaling $135,945,050.00 compared to $101,151,608.00 in the previous period. This reflects our commitment to seeing the benefits of our creativity translate into tangible rewards for our members.
2. Collection Growth: JACAP’s total collection reached $264,551,880.00 in 2024, marking a 15% increase from the previous year. This growth underscores our continued success as a CMO and our dedication to advancing in our music industry on behalf of our members.
3. Growing Membership: Our JACAP family is now 4036 members at the end of December 2024, highlighting the continuous growth of our association and the addition of new talent that contributes to our collective success.
4. Regional Expansion/Digital Licensing:
In 2024, JACAP made significant strides in regional expansion, securing a Broadcast License Agreement with Radio Cayman in the Cayman Islands. Additionally, we formalized agreements with YouTube which demonstrates our commitment to establishing more relationships with other Digital Service Providers.
5. Hurricane Beryl Assistance/Care Packages:
JACAP provided assistance to members affected by Hurricane Beryl, amounting to $90,000.00. Furthermore, care packages were distributed to 80 Elderly Members, at a cost of $800,000.00 showcasing our commitment to supporting our members.
6. JACAP Member Activities/Outreach: Throughout the year, JACAP engaged in various member activities and outreach initiatives, including collaborating with PBCJ to produce a “JACAP Members’ Showcase Live in Studio” for television. The Members’ Forum continued to provide valuable insights on topics such as “How to make money from your Music,” and work commenced on the development of a new interactive JACAP website to enhance public and member experience.
7. AI Music :As we reflect on our successes, it is important to acknowledge that in 2024 we saw a huge bump in the evolving landscape of the music industry, particularly with the rise of AI music creations. This trend last year did not go unnoticed and so, JACAP started engagement with stakeholders to establish its position on AI-generated content to set Jacap’s policy on AI music creation.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate my gratitude to everyone who contributed to making 2024 a successful year for JACAP. Your dedication, passion, and commitment have been instrumental in our achievements, and I look forward to continuing our journey of growth and success together in the future.
Blessings to our Association.
