Valuing your Musical Creativity

JACAP’ s computer system keeps records of all musical works composed by JACAP members and members of affiliated societies. When music users (broadcasters/promoters/club owners/hotels etc.) submit logs and play lists to JACAP, these are used to ascertain the rights owners in the works so that from the funds we collect through fees from users these rights owners can be compensated for the use of their works. Logs and play lists do not only include local works and so from the funds we collect amounts have to be remitted to the foreign societies that have the rights in those works. When a person joins a copyright society he/she is in fact assigning the public performing right in the work (and in some cases the mechanical right also) to the society to license/collect fees on his/her behalf, and pay over such as royalties after deducting administration expenses.
